High tech of Innovative Designs light up U2's 'Vertigo Tour’ in San Diego
U2's 'Vertigo Tour’ kicked off in San Diego at the end of March and is now burning up North America. Thousands of fans want to witness the impressive stage and lighting designs. So it is not surprising that the tickets sales were sold out in record breaking time.
Innovative Designs, Smartvision and Barco, three suppliers to the entertainment industry, collaborated to make Bono’s latest tour a feast for everyone’s eyes.
The circumference of the stage is developed by the skilled designers and workers of Innovative Designs. Together with Smartvision, they came up with the idea to embed the entire border of the stage with high-brightness RGB pixels. The border can illuminate in it’s entirety and can also be used simultaneously as video and lighting, since the technology uses a high-speed real time video signal.
High above the centre stage are hanging tiny, plastic-encased LED spherical modules, to make the show even more spectacular. The strings contain each 64 spheres and are 9 meters long. A total of 189 strings (containing over 12000 spheres) together form seven 3-D curtains which allows fans on all sides of the stage to have a perfect view of the images & content displayed on the curtain above the band. The digital curtain, that is produced by Barco and Innovative Designs will be retracted and lowered throughout the show as needed.
After having worked with U2 for its ‘Popmart’ World Tour, it can only be confirmed that Bono still beliefs that Innovative Designs lives up to its reputation!
